Winter wedding Rosslea Hall Hotel

Could you tell me a little about how you met and of course the proposal?

We met at a nightclub called Polo. I was with a group of my friends from Shetland and Lewis was out with his friends they had been at a themed party (beach wear). We walked out of the club at the same time as it as closing, Lewis asked if he could kiss me (He wasn’t sure if I was gay). We swapped numbers and met up, we both had a bit to drink and can’t really remember what we had spoke about that night, must have been ok to still be together lol.

The proposal- It was Christmas time, both of our favourite time of year. Family, food, drink, fun films what’s not to love. He had asked if we could spend Christmas at his family’s house, I was ok with that. We went down on the 23rd of December. A bit of a dangerous drive down to Stranraer that year, the road had been blocked by a land slide and a long diversion was put in place. The diversion was a pothole filled, dark, narrow road in the back of beyond of the hill side. It had sharp turns and lots of lorries from the ferry travelling in the opposite direction. we got there safe on the 24th of December he was acting weird and we went for a walk around Portpatrick and he explained that the lane we where about to walk up was called lovers lane and your only meant to up there with your on true love (CUTE!).  We walked up the lane when is met by stairs he asked how many stairs there was so of course I ran up them counting as I went and he said so is this half way and I said yes and this point he got down on one knew and popped the question. I replied with “are you serious?”. He had a ring and was on his knee I should have just said yes. Lol. You know what I answered, we went for lunch and drank all day had a great time with our family and laughed the whole night.

Where did you shop for the  Outfits?

Macgregor and Macduff, we had an idea of the tartan we wanted. Blue/Gray, something that was nice and we both could pull off. When we saw that in Macgregor and Macduff it was a no brainer. We knew the accessories and pins we wanted. We were really quick with those decisions.

What made you chose The Rosslea Hall Hotel?

Easy question the staff. Lynn and Gemma where amazing, down to earth and could have a laugh.  We always wanted the Cruin, we loved the idea of the sea view and the lodges, it looked good on paper but didn’t feel right after being at Rosslea. We knew that was our venue and wouldn’t have changed a thing. We did make score charts with the category of, Venue, location, staff, menu and Photography, just to make sure we made the right choice.

What do you know now you wish you knew before the wedding?

Take more time to take it all in, the day goes so quick. Chill out. The guys at Rosslea had it in the bag. No need to stress.

Most memorable part of the day?

So many, but taking the time to get some photos done prior to the service is a big one. We got to spend time together, laughing and enjoying the moment of what the day truly was. It help to relax us for the rest of the day and made us feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

The hard work that the team put in at Rosslea and Ronit coming to calm us down just before we went downstairs. Walking into the service

How did you feel walking down the aisle and during the service?

Nervous, when I think back it went so quick. The day just flew in but that moment of walking down the aisle. Because we choose to walk in at the same time from different ends of the conservatory we had to get the timing right (Thanks to Lynn and Mark) it worked but when you see everyone your trying to take it all in and how Lynn and Mark had set it all up your surprised and feel over whelmed  with love and that your are suppose to be right there in that moment are the happiest and most nervous you can be at the same time. Ronit made the service unbelievably personal and amazing, everything you could want and more. Funny and that woman is so fantastic, there are not enough words to describe.

The wedding theme and style? How did you personalise the wedding?

We didn’t realise we had made a style until the last month or two at first it was blue we wanted the girls in and icy blue dress and the chair covers to match but as the centre pieces were made and with them have an rustic look and having hessian in it, it all came together quick in the end. The centre pieces, now those we did know what we wanted it was trying to figure out how we were going to do put it all together and what materials we needed. Now that I’m thinking back it changed a lot. Long hours spent on in on Pinterest and google until we got the correct items. The main concept was always there thou.  When it came to physically putting it all together my mum made them and she just loves to get involved and put her spin on things and to be fair if she hadn’t we might not of had any centre pieces at all.

We always said we wanted Christmas films as the table names, as I said we both love Christmas and every year we watch all our favourite  films so this was a given for us to do and as our family would say we are film mad.

Which song did you chose for first dance and why?

Beyoncé- Halo. Way before we had got engaged, we both said that the lyrics of the song is how we made each other feel.  It was real and passionate for us. Even thou we did think of changing it because the music video was a potential jinx as its about a couple not getting married as one of them dies.

It was always going to be Halo thou.

How did you feel about your getting your picture taken?

To begin with we were both nervous and didn’t know exactly what to do but you made us feel at ease and comfortable. Having the engagement shoot helps a lot and I would recommend couples do ask for one. It got us use to the camera and what we had to do to help you. It helps us build a relationship and you knew how we worked and what you needed us to do. We got to see some more of your fantastic work and how we would present with a professional photographer.

Any other suppliers you’d like to mention?

Pipinghot weddings. The crepe chart was amazing. They were so professional, friendly and easy to talk and to book. The guys/girls in the kitchen at Rosslea, those guys can cook one hell of a meal. Amazing food. I wish we could have ordered everything that day. Of course, Lynn and Mark we couldn’t of had the day we did without them, can’t wait to go back and see them. They really do create the family atmosphere and genuine interest in our wedding day being what we wanted it to be.  Ronit the amazing humanist she is, I still can’t get over how perfect the service was, I loved everything about that woman.

And not forgetting your-self you’re a fantastic photographer, loved having the meetings before the wedding and getting to know you. If I was to do it all again, I would still choose you. Lol
